Ideal Trip Length
4–5 days for a first visit; a full week if you want to add day trips to Versailles or Giverny.
Best Time to Visit
April through June, and October. September is lovely but busy; summer is warm and full of festivals.
Why I recommend it
Paris rewards the traveler who moves slowly. It's a city best experienced on foot, with no particular destination, stopping for a coffee when a café looks right and for a pastry when the line outside a shop tells you it's worth it.
What I love most is how layered it is — grand monuments and tiny side streets, world-class museums and ordinary Sunday markets. It never asks you to choose between the two.
Best for
First-timers who want the icons done well; returning visitors ready for the quieter corners; and travelers who plan their days around meals and walks.
Signature experiences
- A sunrise walk along the Seine before the city wakes
- A private, skip-the-line morning at the Louvre or Orsay
- Dinner at a small bistro chosen for its neighborhood, not its guidebook listing
- An afternoon in the Marché des Enfants Rouges
- An evening cruise that times the Eiffel Tower sparkle
Food & culture
Paris is still the standard-bearer for eating well without fuss.
Start with croissants and café crème at a neighborhood spot, move to a long, wine-laced lunch, and end with a late, unhurried dinner. The best meals are often the simplest — a perfect roast chicken, a bowl of vin chaud–seasoned onion soup, a plate of oysters and a glass of Chablis.
The patisserie scene alone is worth the trip.
Where to stay
A classic Right Bank hotel near the Palais Royal for walkable central stays.
A quieter boutique spot in the 6th or 7th for a more residential feel.
An apartment rental for travelers who want to live like a local for the week.
